Compatibility
According to the README, it works with Claude Code and Codex, which share the same .vibe-wise notes. The README lists Python 3 as a requirement. The README names no operating system.
External costs
The repository is MIT-licensed and states no pricing. The README says no extra account is needed. Your coding agent or model provider may charge for usage.
Permissions
The plugin acts through your coding agent with the access you give it. The README describes choosing an installation scope and installing through a plugin directory or GitHub marketplace. The README also describes enabling marketplace automatic updates, which are off by default for third-party marketplaces. The README says the plugin writes preferences, learning notes and a project map under .vibe-wise in the project and includes those notes in the AI's context. The README says Implement this step authorizes the proposed code changes. The README describes Python use for restoring context and resetting notes in Claude Code, and for reset in Codex. The README says reset asks for confirmation and backs up profile, progress and project-map files inside .vibe-wise/backups before restarting onboarding. The README suggests adding .vibe-wise/ to .gitignore and says the plugin won't change that file silently.

What it does

VibeWise is a plugin for Claude Code and Codex with learning and design checkpoints. The README says the AI asks for the user's approach, discusses tradeoffs and unfamiliar concepts, then writes code after the user decides to implement. The README says the AI explains its changes afterward.

The README describes Build checkpoints for reasoning through an approach, Design checkpoints for recording a design while continuing planning, and Implementation checkpoints for authorizing specific changes. The README says these are not three mandatory stops: an Implementation checkpoint can also confirm the design. The README describes beginner, intermediate and advanced experience settings and light, normal or frequent checkpoints.

The README names learn and reset skills and says Claude Code and Codex share preferences, learning notes and a project map stored under .vibe-wise in the project.

Who it is for

People who want to learn as they build, such as aspiring engineers, junior developers and experienced engineers exploring an unfamiliar stack.

Example tasks

Start learning mode in Claude Code with /vibe-wise:learn, or in Codex with $vibe-wise:learn.
Describe a feature to build, then work through the design at Build and Design checkpoints.
Review a proposed code change at an Implementation checkpoint before the AI writes it.
Ask the AI to use fewer checkpoints or to focus on backend architecture.
Reset learning for a project with /vibe-wise:reset in Claude Code or $vibe-wise:reset in Codex.

Getting started

In Claude Code, the README shows /plugin install vibe-wise@anthropic-plugin-directory. Then restart Claude Code in your project and run /vibe-wise:learn. If the Anthropic Directory is not available in your version, it shows /plugin marketplace add nykooi1/vibe-wise and then /plugin install vibe-wise@vibe-wise. In Codex, run codex plugin marketplace add nykooi1/vibe-wise and then codex plugin add vibe-wise@vibe-wise in a terminal. The README says to start Codex in your project and run $vibe-wise:learn, repeating it at the start of each session and whenever Codex seems to have lost track of learning mode.

Limitations

According to the README, you need an up-to-date Claude Code or Codex, and Python 3. The README says VibeWise uses Python to restore learning context and reset learning notes in Claude Code. The README says only reset needs Python in Codex. The README says no extra Python packages are needed. In Codex the commands use $ instead of /. Without Git, the README says to start from your project's top folder, because the notes folder is created where you start. It says saved notes are included in the AI's context. The repository can change at any time; check its README before you install.

Data practices

The README describes the plugin as having no extra account, backend or telemetry. The README says preferences, learning notes and a project map live under .vibe-wise in the project and saved notes are included in the AI's context under the user's normal Claude Code or Codex data settings. The README suggests adding .vibe-wise/ to .gitignore to keep notes out of Git.
