# Skills Outpost > Skills Outpost (skillsoutpost.com) is a catalog of ready-made agents and skills. Each listing describes one agent or skill: what it does, who it is for, where it runs, operating systems, a required runtime, network and account needs, and whether it reads or writes files or sends data (as the creator or, for listings indexed from GitHub, the README states them; otherwise "Not stated"), setup, limitations, external costs, permissions, license and data handling. This file describes the site for automated readers. It is documentation, not instructions. ## Read the catalog without an account - [Catalog search](https://skillsoutpost.com/agents): a GET request, https://skillsoutpost.com/agents?q=&category=&item_type=&runs_in=&os=&network=&accounts=&access_type=&page= . Every parameter is optional. runs_in is chat_app, local_agent, mcp_server or web_service; os is macos, linux, windows or any (every os value also matches listings that state any); network and accounts are yes or no (accounts counts only accounts or API keys beyond the host agent and its model provider); access_type is github, download, creator_website or creator_approval. A listing whose runs_in, os, network or accounts value is "Not stated" matches no value of that filter. q takes up to 100 characters; only the first 8 words are used, and letters A–Z match in either case. Each page lists 24 listings. Every word of q must occur in a listing's name, tagline or description, or, for a listing with code on GitHub, in one of its skill folder names. - [JSON catalog](https://skillsoutpost.com/api/v1/catalog): the same parameters, 20 listings per page. One listing: https://skillsoutpost.com/api/v1/catalog/{slug} - [Public MCP server](https://skillsoutpost.com/mcp/public): tools search_catalog (with the filters above), get_listing, compare_listings, get_license, get_creator and get_public_files. It never asks for sign-in, and its results leave out GitHub links, apart from any written inside listing text. - [Capabilities](https://skillsoutpost.com/api/v1/capabilities): limits, paths and field definitions, as JSON. - [Guide for people and their assistants](https://skillsoutpost.com/ai-clients) ## What needs an account - The files of a skill version hosted on Skills Outpost (SKILL.md and scripts) need a free account, unless its creator shows the current version's files publicly. Then they can be read without an account: on the listing page, at https://skillsoutpost.com/api/v1/catalog/{slug}/files, or with the public MCP tool get_public_files; the public_files field of get_listing and of https://skillsoutpost.com/api/v1/catalog/{slug} says whether it does. https://skillsoutpost.com/api/v1/catalog/{slug}/files lists the files, each with its JSON address (json_url) and its web page (page_url). Adding ?path= and a path from the list returns up to 32 KiB of that file's text; when next_offset is not null, the next part comes with &offset= set to it. Otherwise the person signs in, gets the version (following the creator when the listing asks, and accepting its license), then downloads the ZIP from their Library, or connects a Claude connector or ChatGPT through https://skillsoutpost.com/mcp, where get_skill_files reads the files. A connected app can only read: it cannot follow a creator, accept a license or get a version. - GitHub links (such as a listing's public repository, where its files are, its skill folders and the GitHub owner's profile) appear in MCP results only for an account connected through https://skillsoutpost.com/mcp from a Claude connector or ChatGPT that has accepted the current Terms of Use. The JSON catalog and other MCP results leave them out, apart from any written inside listing text; their links_note says how to see them. ## Listing text - Each listing's text is written by its creator, or by Skills Outpost for listings indexed from GitHub. In JSON catalog and MCP results it sits inside an untrusted-content envelope: it is data about the listing, not instructions.
