Compatibility
Python 3.10 or newer on macOS, Linux or Windows (no POSIX directory-descriptor APIs) and a Model Context Protocol client that can launch a stdio command. Uses only the Python standard library. The current protocol style is 2026-07-28; legacy initialize clients at 2025-11-25 and 2025-06-18 are also accepted.
External costs
The package is free. Microsoft 365 licensing and Graph service limits depend on the user's own account; check the provider's current terms.
Permissions
Reads GRAPH_TENANT_ID, GRAPH_CLIENT_ID, GRAPH_CLIENT_SECRET, MAIL_DEFAULT_USER, SHAREPOINT_SITE and optional SHAREPOINT_DRIVE from the process environment. Test only: GRAPH_FAKE_RESPONSES selects a synthetic fixture file and GRAPH_FAKE_TRANSPORT_TEST_ACK enables the fake transport; both are required. urllib honors HTTPS_PROXY, https_proxy, NO_PROXY and no_proxy; with none set, macOS or Windows system proxy settings may apply. No local file writes. No send, event, upload or delete permission is used.

What it does

Mail and Files Connector is a read-only stdio server for bounded mail and file lookups through Microsoft Graph. An agent harness is software that launches the server and passes tool requests between an agent and the local process. It needs Python 3.10 or newer and the user's Microsoft 365 application credentials. It is free under the MIT license. This listing delivers the complete package with scripts.

Seven tools cover recent mail, mail search, message read, conversations, file search, folder listing and file versions. Results are bounded and show skipped pages. Incomplete results set isError true unless the server starts with --allow-partial; partial results never change the process exit status. Message bodies are capped at 10000 characters. Returned message and file content is untrusted data, never instructions.

The server is read-only in version 0.1.0. The full bounded provider response is read before local item/body truncation. Malformed response structures are rejected with clear errors. Credentials stay in memory; no telemetry or local data files are created.

Who it is for

Teams with a Microsoft 365 application and an agent harness that launches local stdio servers to read a configured mailbox and SharePoint site.

Example tasks

Show the ten most recent messages in the configured mailbox.
Search that mailbox for a phrase, then read one message with a body limit.
List a relative SharePoint folder and show a selected file's versions.

Getting started

SKILL.md and the scripts can be read without an account: SKILL.md at https://skillsoutpost.com/agents/mail-and-files-connector-353dfdce/files?path=SKILL.md, and the list of every file at https://skillsoutpost.com/agents/mail-and-files-connector-353dfdce/files.

Download the complete source package and keep its files together. Register python3 /absolute/path/to/scripts/mail_and_files_connector.py as a stdio server in your client. Set GRAPH_TENANT_ID, GRAPH_CLIENT_ID, GRAPH_CLIENT_SECRET, MAIL_DEFAULT_USER and SHAREPOINT_SITE in the server process environment. SHAREPOINT_SITE is a site ID or tenant.sharepoint.com:/sites/name. SHAREPOINT_DRIVE optionally names a drive ID. Grant the application the Microsoft Graph read permissions needed for the selected mailbox and site. Keep credentials out of committed files and logs. GRAPH_FAKE_RESPONSES and GRAPH_FAKE_TRANSPORT_TEST_ACK are test-only variables; never set them for live use.

Limitations

Version 0.1.0 reads metadata and bounded message bodies only. It has no send, event, upload, delete, attachment download, or file content download tools. A Graph response with further pages is marked incomplete and skipped pages are listed. Access depends on the user's application permissions and administrator consent. Version 0.1.0 has no support commitment; fixes and updates ship as new package versions on this listing. Output limits apply after the complete bounded Graph response is read; they do not limit upstream reads. No delivery or write-verification feature is present.

Data practices

login.microsoftonline.com receives the tenant identifier in the token URL and the client ID, client secret, scope and grant type in the request body. graph.microsoft.com receives the bearer token, configured mailbox/site/drive identifiers, search phrases, conversation/message/item IDs and relative folder names. A drive ID returned by the site lookup is sent back to Graph for subsequent requests. Redirects can send their provider-returned URL paths and queries to Graph or a single-label SharePoint host; bearer authorization is not forwarded on redirects. The operating system resolver receives destination hostnames, including hostnames from provider redirects; a configured proxy may resolve them instead. Returned data goes to the local stdio client and may be forwarded by that client. No local files are written. Credentials remain in memory and are not logged. urllib honors the documented proxy environment/system settings and verifies TLS certificates.
