Compatibility
According to the README, the CLI generator lists these supported agents: Claude Code, Cursor, Pi, OpenClaw, OpenCode, Codex, Hermes, Reasonix, Qodercli, GitHub Copilot CLI and Goose. For the CLI-Hub meta-skill it says: works with OpenClaw, Nanobot, Claude Code, Codex, Reasonix, Antigravity, and other SKILL-compatible agents.
External costs
The repository is Apache-2.0-licensed, and its README states no price for itself. Many of the CLIs it wraps or generates control separate desktop or backend software, such as GIMP or Blender, which you must install yourself and which may have its own costs or licenses. Using an agent to run the generator uses that agent's own usage or subscription.
Permissions
The skills act through your coding agent with the access you give it. According to the README, the generator's last step creates a setup.py and installs the new CLI to your PATH, CLI-Hub can install public CLIs from pip, npm, brew or bundled/system tools, and the per-agent installers copy files into your home folder (for example ~/.pi/agent/extensions, ~/.cursor/plugins and ~/.codex/skills) and run bash scripts from a cloned copy. It describes registry CLIs that drive desktop or backend software such as GIMP, Blender and LibreOffice, a CLI that automates a browser (Safari), and CLIs that call outside services, such as Exa for web search and Novita AI for API access.
Usage terms
Apache License 2.0, as stated in the repository. See its LICENSE file for the exact terms.

What it does

CLI-Anything is a Claude Code plugin and skill collection built around two tracks, according to the README: using CLI-Hub, a package manager for already-built command-line wrappers around other software, or building a new one with a seven-phase CLI generator.

The repository bundles many SKILL.md folders. Most wrap a specific desktop or backend application, such as GIMP, Blender, FreeCAD, Godot, LibreOffice, Krita, Obsidian, and Zoom, in a command-line interface an agent can call. Others are the CLI-Hub meta-skill, used to discover and install these CLIs, and the CLI-Anything generator skill itself, which analyzes a target piece of software and builds a new Click-based CLI with tests and documentation.

According to the README, you install CLI-Hub with pip to browse and install ready-made CLIs (cli-hub install <name>), or install the CLI-Anything plugin or skill in a supported agent and run its generator command against a local path or a GitHub repository to produce a new CLI. The README's 'Why CLI?' section says text commands match the format language models use and can be chained, that --help flags give agents built-in documentation, and that structured JSON output avoids parsing work.

Who it is for

Developers who want their coding agent to control other desktop or backend software through a generated or pre-built command-line interface.

Example tasks

Install CLI-Hub and browse its registry of community-built CLI wrappers.
Install a ready-made CLI wrapper for an application such as GIMP or Blender.
Generate a new agent-native CLI for a piece of software with the seven-phase generator.
Refine an existing generated CLI to cover a specific missing capability.
Install the CLI-Hub meta-skill so a compatible agent can find and install CLIs itself.

Getting started

To use existing CLIs, the README has you run "pip install cli-anything-hub", then "cli-hub install <name>". To build new CLIs in Claude Code, it has you run "/plugin marketplace add HKUDS/CLI-Anything", then "/plugin install cli-anything", then "/cli-anything <path-or-repo>". Other agents have their own install steps. The README has the exact commands.

Limitations

Needs Python 3.10 or later. Building a new CLI needs a supported AI coding agent, such as Claude Code, Cursor, Pi, OpenClaw, OpenCode, Codex, Hermes, Reasonix, Qodercli, GitHub Copilot CLI, or Goose, plus the target software or its source code available locally or online. Many generated CLIs wrap a specific desktop or backend application, such as GIMP, Blender, or LibreOffice, which must already be installed separately. The README labels the OpenCode, Goose, Codex, Hermes and Reasonix routes experimental and marks the Goose, Codex, Hermes, Reasonix, Qodercli, OpenClaw and GitHub Copilot CLI routes as community, and says Windows users of Claude Code need Git for Windows or WSL. The repository can change at any time; check its README before you install.

Data practices

The README does not describe one data-handling policy for the whole collection. According to the README, some CLIs in the registry call outside services, such as Exa for web search and Novita AI for API access, depending on which one you install; the README does not say what each one sends, so that depends on the CLI and your coding agent.
