Compatibility
According to the README: Codex, Claude Code, DeepSeek Harness and other hosts that have a skill selector, with slash-command support depending on the host. It names Node.js 18 or newer. The README says every view supports light and dark themes and a Chinese or English interface.
External costs
The repository is MIT-licensed and states no pricing. Your coding agent or model provider may charge for usage.
Permissions
The skill acts through your coding agent with the access you give it. According to the README, the agent reads project source and local instructions and writes architecture, constraint, activity, review and HTML files under .birdview. The README says coding requests proceed with source edits after conversational confirmation. The README describes setup and mode commands that write or preserve Birdview settings in AGENTS.md, or CLAUDE.md for Claude Code; auto mode activates before code changes and relevant planning. The README says the compatibility audit reads effective installed skill roots and skill bodies and can write JSON and Markdown reports, without changing installed skills. The README's example-regeneration procedure includes npm ci and local build commands.
Usage terms
MIT License, as stated in the repository. See its LICENSE file for the exact terms. The README says third-party notices are kept in THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.

What it does

Birdview is a skill for coding agents for architecture maps, constraints and proposed change scope. The README says the agent shows its understanding and plan, waits for confirmation, then implements and records its checks. The README describes standalone browser-readable HTML output without a service to deploy.

The README describes Architecture, Constraints and Review views for module relationships and source evidence, reviewed rules and coverage, and architecture findings with proposed redraws. The README also describes a separately installed birdview-review entry and a skill-compatibility audit for trigger overlaps and scenario-specific conclusions.

The README says Birdview runs on demand unless project auto mode is enabled. The README identifies confirmation as agent guidance rather than a filesystem write lock, says activity is agent-declared rather than automatically observed, and says Birdview does not replace Git diffs, tests or code review.

Who it is for

Developers who want a coding agent to show an architecture map and its planned scope for confirmation before it changes code.

Example tasks

Ask your agent to show a project's architecture and constraints without editing code.
Ask for an architecture review of module boundaries, with improvement proposals before any change.
Have the agent show the planned scope for adding rate limiting to a login endpoint and wait for your confirmation.
Check whether installed skills can be activated together with the compatibility audit.
Open the two example HTML pages in a browser.

Getting started

The README installs with the third-party skills CLI: npx skills add Qiuner/birdview --skill birdview. Start a new agent task and invoke the skill. In Codex, type /skills and select Birdview, or enter $birdview followed by a request. In Claude Code, enter /birdview followed by a request. The review entry is installed separately as birdview-review alongside the main skill. The README has the exact commands.

Limitations

Needs an agent that can load skills. The README names Codex, Claude Code and DeepSeek Harness, and says slash-command support depends on the host. It names Node.js 18 or newer. Birdview runs on demand by default, and ordinary edits trigger it only after you enable project auto mode. The README says confirmation is recorded in the conversation and is not enforced by an HTML approval button or filesystem lock. It says activity is declared by the agent and not observed automatically, and that updates need the HTML regenerated and the browser refreshed. It says the package is marked private and is not published to npm. The README says the Constraints view needs a curated constraint catalog first, and that there is no ready-to-open example for it yet. The README says validation does not prove architecture claims are true or referenced source files exist, and displaying a rule does not prove the implementation satisfies it. The review entry is installed separately as birdview-review. The repository can change at any time; check its README before you install.

Data practices

According to the README, the output is a standalone HTML page that opens in a browser, with no service to deploy. The README describes project source, local rules and agent declarations as inputs to JSON, JSONL and HTML artifacts. The README says the integrated page includes in-page source reading and the generated viewer contains the map, optional constraint catalog and activity history. What is sent where depends on your coding agent and model provider.
